Într’un ogor din satul Teioasa, comuna Darabani, s’a descoperit un mormânt preistoric, care se pare a fi fost al unui șef de răsboinici. În el s’au găsit arme ca: scut, lance, vârfuri de suliți sau de săgeți de fier sau de bronz; apoi, o piatră funerară hexagonală, fragmente de os, urne de cenușă funerară, bucăți dintr’o amforă de pământ crud (rudimentar ars în exterior) ș.a.
Așa începe articolul publicat în 1939 în ziarul „Cuvântul nostru”, prin care se anunța o descoperire arheologică de excepție la Darabani. Restul articolului este o apologie pentru încredințarea obiectelor descoperite la Teioasa căminului cultural „Lumina”, condus de avocatul dărăbănean Emil Costeanu, „mare și asiduu cercetător al trecutului Darabanilor, care nu se poate împăca cu ideea aceasta, de a i se lua comunei tezaurul arheologic cel mai de preț aflat de pământul ei”.
Mai multe detalii despre această descoperire aflăm dintr-un manuscris al lui Emil Costeanu, datând din toamna aceluiași an (1939).
Mormântul a fost descoperit „incidental, cu ocazia unor săpături făcute în o culme a țarinei cetățeanului David Th. Matei”. „Mormântul a fost descoperit la o adâncime de aproximativ 1 metru. Majoritatea obiectelor, forma lor și restul amănuntelor creditează prezumțiunea că mormântul descoperit însușește toate caracteristicile incinerărilor preistorice”.
„Comparația obiectelor găsite la Darabani cu similarele lor fotografii din diferite tratate de istorie, arheologie și studii speciale, duce odată mai mult la confirmarea că mormântul de la Darabani este un mormânt preistoric a. Ch., rămânând specialiștilor inițiați îndatorirea de a-i fixa definitiv originea istorică și timpul”, conchide Costeanu în manuscrisul său, publicat mai apoi în ziarul „Curentul”.
Descoperirea de la Teioasa a așezat fără dubii Darabaniul pe lista regiunilor locuite încă de acum două milenii. Cu mulți ani înainte, la Concești și Horodiștea (două sate de lângă Darabani) s-au făcut descoperiri din aceeași epocă, dar – e drept – mult mai valoroase, consemnate și de istoricii Vasile Pârvan și Alexandru Odobescu.
Nu știm cui a fost încredințată până la urmă mica comoară găsită în 1939 la Teioasa. Cert este însă că ea n-a ajuns până la noi și, asemenea arhivelor oficiale ale Darabanilor, pierdute într-un bombardament din timpul celui de al doilea război mondial, ne dăruiește, peste generații, umbra presupunerilor și, mai ales, frumusețea legendelor.
